Courtland Avenue Church of Christ has been in existence for approximately 85 years. Formerly called the Laurel Street Church of Christ, the church has a rich history. It was established in 1935 under the preaching of Bro. F.L. Thompson. Some of the influential members who helped steer the church in the right direction were Bro. Jack Blankumsee, Bro. Lucious Rogers, Bro. Sam Nelson, Bro. Wently McCall, Bro. Charlie Jackson Sr., Bro. Buster Brown, Bro. Woodrow Phillips, and Bro. William Phillips. In 1997 the Laurel Street Church of Christ began the construction of its new edifice. In 2006 the church completed phase II of the building program, which included a gymnasium, family life center, and additional classrooms. The Courtland Ave. Church of Christ is modeled after the New Testament Church found in the bible.
